Basic Physical Defence for women
This is a comprehensive course that begins with
awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk
avoidance, and includes simple but effective physical
techniques to defend against sexual assault or rape.
It is not a martial arts course.
The course lasts 9 hours and covers:
- facts and figures about crime rates and reporting
- self defence strategies
- how you can use your own 'personal weapons' to
defend yourself
- simple physical techniques designed for 'everywoman'
(you do not need to be particularly fit or agile to take
part)
- patterns of attack and date rape
- reducing risk
- 10 basic principles of self defence
- escaping from different physical encounters
Every participant receives a manual containing advice,
tips and pictures of the physical techniques covered.
Women who complete the course become a member
of the Freedom Personal Safety Network. This gives
you the opportunity to attend other basic physical
defence courses for free to practice your techniques to
build your confidence.
We can deliver the course over 2, 3 or 4 sessions. We
are happy to discuss timings around the needs of
individual groups.
The standard cost for public and commercial
organisations is £1500 per course and £600 for
community groups which provides places for 8- 12
participants. We can sometimes offer discounts for
non-profit making groups and individuals - please use
the contact form and we will be happy to discuss this
further.
Personal safety talks
We also offer sessions on turning 'common sense into
common practice' which can be tailored to the needs
of individual groups. Typically a session would cover;
reducing risk; general personal safety advice, some
physical techniques, case studies and discussion.
If you would like more information or would like to
book a course, please complete the contact form on
the contact us page and we will get back to you.
"I wasn't sure about
going on the course at
first, but once we got into
the punches and kicks, it
was great. I didn't know I
had it in me"
